Minority groups to have more protection
|
|
Minority groups should receive extra protection from discrimination as a result of two key pieces of legislation announced in the Queen’s Speech. An Equality Bill will set up a Commission for Equality and Human Rights as well as outlaw discrimination on the grounds of religion. The Government will also publish a Disability Discrimination Bill that will improve opportunities for the estimated 10 million people suffering from a disability. The new commission will replace the three existing equality bodies - the Equal Opportunities Commission, the Commission for Racial Equality and the Disability Rights Commission.
