Boeing sued by female workers claiming gender discrimination

The Boeing Co. was sued in three states Wednesday by female employees who claim the company denied them pay, promotions and other workplace benefits based on their gender. The suits, filed in U.S. District Court in California, Kansas and Missouri, seek class-action status to represent tens of thousands of employees, said Steve Berman, the Seattle lawyer handling the case. They stem from a suit Berman’s firm initially filed in February 2000. Last year, the U.S. District Court in Seattle limited that lawsuit to female employees in the Puget Sound area, saying other workers would have to bring cases in their own jurisdictions. Boeing has denied the charges and plans an “aggressive defense,” the company said in a recent regulatory filing. Shares of the company, based in Chicago, fell 71 cents to $38.64 in midafternoon trading. They have dropped 37 percent in the past year. More : seattlepi.nwsource.co |
